چکیده
PurposeNormal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models could aid the understanding of dose dependence radiation-induced toxicities after eye-preserving radiotherapy choroidal melanomas. We performed NTCP-modeling and established dose-response relationships for visual acuity (VA) deterioration common late complications treatments with proton therapy (PT).DesignRetrospective study from single, large referral center.ParticipantsWe considered patients Nice, France, diagnosed melanoma treated primarily hypofractionated PT (52 Gy physical in 4 fractions). Complete VA information was available 1020 patients, complete on 991 patients.MethodsTreatment details, dose-volume histograms (DVHs) relevant anatomic structures, patient tumor characteristics were a dedicated ocular database. Least absolute shrinkage selection operator (LASSO) variable used to identify variables strongest impact each end point, followed by multivariate Cox regressions logistic analyze among dose, clinical characteristics, outcomes.Main Outcome MeasuresDose-response relationship complications.ResultsDose metrics several structures (i.e., optic disc, macula, retina, globe, lens, ciliary body) correlated outcome. Increase in Tumor Control and Normal Tissue Complication Probabilities in Advanced Head-and-Neck Cancer for Dose-Escalated Intensity-Modulated Photon and Proton Therapy
INTRODUCTION Presently used radiochemotherapy regimens result in moderate local control rates for patients with advanced head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Dose escalation (DE) may be an option to improve patient outcome, but may also increase the risk of toxicities in healthy tissue. The presented treatment planning study evaluated the feasibility of two DE levels for advanced HNSC...
متن کاملHigh-dose proton beam therapy for sinonasal mucosal malignant melanoma
BACKGROUND The significance of definitive radiotherapy for sinonasal mucosal melanoma (SMM) is sill controvertial. This study was to evaluate the role of high-dose proton beam therapy (PBT) in patients with SMM. METHODS The cases of 20 patients with SMM localized to the primary site who were treated by PBT between 2006 and 2012 were retrospectively analyzed. The patterns of overall survival a...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional imaging of tumour control probabilities and normal tissue complication probabilities.
AIM To create a presentation method of TCP and NTCP distributions calculated based on dose distribution for a selected CT slice. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three 24-bit colour maps - of dose distribution, delineated structures and CT information - were converted into m-by-n-by-3 data arrays, containing intensities of red, green, and blue colour components for each pixel. All calculations were perf...
متن کاملCalculating normal tissue complication probabilities and probabilities of complication-free tumour control from stochastic models of population dynamics
We use a stochastic birth-death model for a population of cells to estimate the normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) under a particular radiotherapy protocol. We specifically allow for interaction between cells, via a nonlinear logistic growth model. To capture some of the effects of intrinsic noise in the population we develop several approximations of NTCP, using Kramers–Moyal expans...
متن کاملLocal treatment failure after globe-conserving therapy for choroidal melanoma
Local treatment failure after globe-conserving therapy for choroidal melanoma is a surgical complication with significant morbidity to the vision and eye. Few reports in the literature have addressed this complication exclusively. A review of the published literature with reference to local treatment failure in the management of choroidal melanoma was performed to make known the potential diffe...
